Tonteg matters

About me

Ryan Hallett wearing a blue rosette

I'm Ryan Hallett, a Local Conservative Activist. I live locally, and I want to make sure local concerns are heard and acted on. I trained at Aberthaw power station as a mechanical apprentice and fitter, then joined Pembroke power station as a mechanical engineer and worked my way up. Today I'm a project manager in the energy sector, so I know how to plan, push and get things done. I came home to Wales just over two years ago, and I'm proud to be back.

I joined the Conservative Party in 2024, when Kemi Badenoch became leader, and I've been an active member of RCT Conservatives ever since. I believe in our leadership, both Kemi and Darren Millar, and in Conservative values: work should pay, aspiration is a good thing, and more of your money should stay in your pocket rather than being spent on welfare, an ever-growing civil service and quangos.

Outside work, I'm a keen sea rower. I've rowed the English Channel with colleagues from Pembroke and raced Cornish gigs in the Celtic Challenge. I've recently retired from playing rugby and now enjoy the gym and keeping fit. And you'll often spot me out with my two dogs, Jura and Isla.

I care about Tonteg because communities like ours deserve answers. When I heard about the contamination at Maendy quarry, I went to the public meeting, and I'm determined to see it properly investigated. I'm calling for a national, independent public inquiry into the dumping of toxic waste at Maendy and other sites across Wales, so that every affected community gets the truth about what was left in the ground.

If elected next year, I'd be proud to work alongside Joel James and Karl Johnson, the councillors for Llantwit Fardre. Like them, I'm a doer. I want to be a councillor who's out there taking action and delivering for the people of Tonteg, whatever the weather. No issue is too big or too small, and I'll keep pushing until it's sorted.
